A great German film of the past
It is now 2022. In the 42 years since this movie was created oh, I've seen it probably six times all the way through. I saw it first when it was broadcast on PBS in Los Angeles and it was a stunning piece of work. I made VHS copies of the entire film from that broadcast. It's still is an unforgettable story even though it was shot on 16 mm to begin with. The Criterion copy is obviously a remastering of the entire film and it looks pretty good even though it's obviously old.

BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ
If you like Fassbinder's films, then I highly recognize this film; a study in human frailty; well acted. It needs at least two viewings to be appreciated fully.

A masterpiece
Fassbinder’s genius in filmmaking, storytelling and cinematic expression is on exhibit in every frame. Like no other work of Fassbinder’s, Berlin Alexanderplatz is a masterpiece of German film in every aspect.
