Product Information

Roger Moore makes his fifth appearance as 007 in this, the twelfth Bond film. In this outing, the renowned British double agent must locate a weapons system known as ATAC, which controls Great Britain's submarines, after it is sunk on a ship in the Ionian Sea. While he must contend with a formidable foe in the villain known as Kristatos (Julian Glover), he does have the lovely and talented Melina (Carole Bouquet), the daughter of a scientist killed by Kristatos, on his side. For fans craving their old favorites, Blofeld, Moneypenny and Q all put in appearances. The stunts come fast and furious, most notably a breathtaking race down a ski slope at the film's opening. Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Song ("For Your Eyes Only").

You Won't Need To Read Between The Lines
This movie is so much fun to watch. It is similar to some of the earlier Bonds with the technical device being the thing that everyone wants to get their hands on first. There's skiing, and scuba diving, and even some rock climbing too! All the principal actors do a wonderful job at pulling you into the story. Sir Roger Moore, of course, is at his very best in this one. I really enjoyed the athletic performances by Lynn-Holly Johnson; the beautiful Carole Bouquet with her smoke-show eyes; and a charismatic Topol as the goodest underworld contrabandist featured in any of the 007 films. This Blu-ray version is pretty flawless for an early 80s movie as far as keeping the integrity and quality of the film from analog to digital. There's some nifty features in the viewing options: various commentary from the cast and crew, as well as a good bit from the director. Roger Moore was such a cool fellow and hearing his narration was like having him in your living room with you as you watched. As one of those last Cold-War kids, this was my era's Bond and why I am probably more than biased to loving it so much. This DVD is a must-have for any 007 fan or interested film aficionados if only to hear about behind-the-scenes tidbits. What I learned was that so many of the crew members were like a big family who had worked their way up the ranks from one Bond film to the next. This is why these pictures have a polished continuity to them, as the people working on it have their unique fingerprint stamped on the production. The ski scenes were largely the work of the famous German skier, Willie Bogner, who not only shot the daring snow-chase scenes but also provided the athletic wardrobe for the actors during filming. His Bogner brand is worn by every actor, Bond and the baddies chasing him. They all have on Bogner ski jackets with the signature "B" hanging from their coat zippers. When I see this, I just create my own subtext as to why they're all wearing the same brand. See, this is one of those fancy-schmancy resort towns where everybody is more concerned with how they look than how well they can ski. As such, the intel agencies know that Bond had to dress the part, but the bad guys also know they too have to blend in, so they all went out and bought the most expensive gear they could find. And if you doubt this for a moment, go to your eBay search bar and type Bogner Ski Jacket, then sort the price from highest to lowest. Now go ahead and splurge on this DVD because chances are you are more than likely to find it on here at a fair price compared to those Bogner coats, unless of course you're a 007-type jet setter, but then you already knew that!

Best in Collection
One of the best in the Roger Moore series. Will probably add another title to my Blu Ray collection to go with this one.
