  • The Man Who Loved Women is a 'man for all seasons'

For aficionados of French cinema, and especially the New Wave, you just can't go wrong on a film by Francois Truffaut, one of the movements most brilliant exponents. While the quirky story may not be for everybody, it is a whimsical romp in French romanticism. The protagonist has a hang-up and its that he has a taste for "skirt chasing". The film was originally to be entitled "The Skirt Chaser". From the male point of view Truffaut's man about town flies from flower to flower as he objectifies the delights of the female sex. The film is for mature audiences, but is not of a primarily exploitational stripe. Instead one empathizes with its unfulfilled character as he tries time and again to find his ideal woman. The movie is both engaging in its episodial structure, while a delight for anyone who enjoys the work of the late Truffaut.
