A great movie.
Strategic Air Command is one of the great movies. James Stewart (an actual officer in the USAF's early days), lends credit and authenticity to when the USAF (just starting out as its own agency after being a part of the US Army Air Force). The movie does depict how the USAF had to "call back" some of their WW II and Korean War pilots in an effort to "jump start" the new USAF and the advancing jet age. The B-36 aircraft was depicted in all of its size and complexity, and was a sight to see. Domestic problems with crews and their spouses in regards to long deployments, being on-call, constant training, is also depicted well.

After years of VHS
Great movie. Real insight into the Strategic Air Command of the middle 50s and remarkable air footage of this remarkable B-36 bomber in flight. DVD great improvement over VHS. Great music, decent story. Another time...

It was new but I would have liked origin...
It was new but I would have liked original cover. I question the helmet Jimmy had on as the red circle was removed in May 1941 because of possible mistaken identify. I liked the movie and was around B-36s and helped the author of the book.

The Real Thing
James Stewart was the real thing--a good actor and a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve. This is a film for aviation buffs--the B-36 footage is priceless, and the B-47 stuff is refreshing. It's not a music video, nor an action/adventure movie, and the love interest is pretty-well subdued. I was glad to find it available, and it seems even better than I remember it from the 50's. It's a good, clean, meaningful movie, and the message behind it is still as important as it was then....better to be prepared than not.

Jimmy Stewart fan rant,
I've always in ALL WAYS wanted this one of Mr Stewarts films,im a big fan of his,and this time in the history of the Air Force, grew up in Tucson Arizona USA during the cold war and with Double Sessions i felt and heard B-36s warm up EVERY morning on my way to school in the dark,for daily flights to Alaska and back,peAce and love this picture, peAce out

S.A.C.
What's makes this even better is that James Stewart really was a S.A.C. pilot (Reserves). Seldom seen video of the huge B-36 flying above the clouds and the sleek B-47. Pretty good story. Also showed how important the S.A.C. mission was during this time. You might say, the unsung veterans.

B-36's - Amazing while they existed
Story is a bit sappy, but the flying sequences are awesome. Great documentation of a plane we no longer have, even as an airworthy relic for the air shows. Amazing to see all those planes lined up on the runway in one shot. Real Images,, not CGI,,,
