Olympus 15mm f/8.0 Body Cap Lens Is it a Body Cap or a Lens. Its Both! The Olympus 15mm f/8.0 BCL-1580 Body Cap Lens serves as a body cap when carrying the camera around without its interchangeable lens and transforms to become a pan-focus snapshot lens to capture images. The lens is so thin -- just 9mm thick -- that it can easily be mistaken for a camera-mount body cap. With three glass lens elements in three groups it can be used as a wide-angle lens equivalent with a single focal length of 30mm (35mm camera equivalent). In addition to daily use as a pan-focus lens featuring a wide angle fixed f/8 aperture and deep depth of field it is compatible with manual focusing using a lever and capable of close-up shooting as close as 30cm. A lens-protection barrier is provided so the lens can be mounted permanently on the camera and even put in a pocket together with the camera.     You get what you pay for.

    While it is compact and light weight, It's f/8.0 fixed aperture pretty much restricts it's use to outdoors and daylight unless you tripod it. I found the images to be soft focused but with good color. If you lost your lens it could serve as a really light weight, compact back up lens and/or body cap.

    fun, toy camera lens

    Those looking for speed and exemplary image quality in this lens are deluding themselves - and are missing the point entirely! The purpose of this lens is to replicate the inexpensive camera experience from decades long gone. Despite the lens elements being made of glass, this is a toy lens, and its use requires the adoption of a particular kind of photographic philosophy - love of simplicity and spontaneity, the low tech, and vintage/analogue images. I mount this to my Oly EP1 and point and shoot it like an old Kodak Instamatic - usually with the image mode set to Monochrome, Orange Filter, and the contrast bumped up to +1. The image is contrasty and sharp in the center. The edges of the image are softer and do have some vignetting. In B&W, this little gem makes some very dramatic ...

    Not good at all.

    Why would anyone spend a ton of money on an expensive camera and then turn it into $2.50 disposable camera by buying this body cap lens? You would have to have rocks in that pumpkin you call head to take pictures with the body cap lens. If you want pocket camera use your cell phone, you will get much, much better results.

    Compact and ready for use...

    This lens isn't the widest ever but makes the camera ready and quick to use. Not bad for a "walk around" lens outdoors in bright light.

    The images from this lens are marginally acceptable and not any better than a cheap point & shoot camera...Your money would be best spent elsewhere.
