Must-read
The author goes deep into origins of toxic shame and offers the ways to work on it, gives very valuable insights into our behavioral problems that are hard to come across in self-help literature. I'm giving it 4 stars because some paragraphs in the beginning are difficult to understand, and because of his praise for AA where it's common for people to shame each other for their character defects. Overall, I'm glad I found this book, it's been very helpful, and I highly recommend it.

This is a must read book for anyone dealing with addiction or codependency of any type.
This book will give you the best understanding of how the behaviors in a dysfunctional family are passed from one person to another. You'll understand how and why the dysfunctional family unit, if broken up, will reform itself where an addict will unconsciously find another codependent, where a codependent will unconsciously find another addict. Awareness is the beginning of change. This book will get you there like no other. Also see Bradshaw's video of the same title if you can. These materials are available at most all public libraries. Action empowers and this book is a great starting point.

Book is great
I'm a therapist, and have learned more about how to treat my clients through Bradshaw's books than I have through my masters program, internship and continuing education courses.

Bradshaw on th Family
Easy to read and an epiphany on each page. Best book on relationships written so far. This book should be required reading for all college students or for anyone contemplating marriage or re-marriage. Great book!
