Synopsis
Peu de mouvements intellectuels ont laisse une empreinte aussi profonde sur la culture europeenne que l'Humanisme, et de fait les termes humanistes et humanisme se rencontrent dans les travaux les plus divers concernant la litterature, les sciences, la philosophie, l'art, le droit etc. - mais le plus souvent dans l'ignorance complete de ce qu'a vraiment ete l'Humanisme. Francisco Rico decrit ici l'Humanisme comme un vaste mouvement europeen, ne d'un reve grandiose, qui s'averera finalement irrealisable, le reve que le retour de la culture greco-romaine donnerait naissance a une civilisation entierement nouvelle. Cet ouvrage presente une serie de portraits des humanistes les plus importants - entre autres, Petrarque, Alberti, Valla et Erasme - tout en replacant leurs projets, leurs methodes et leurs activites dans le cadre historique et social de l'epoque.
