  • User friendly

To be honest, while this has had limited use, what I've experienced so far I like. As my title indicates this unit is very user friendly. The joy stick-like navigation with menu items is smooth and easy. What I also like about this is there are a limited amount of buttons on the side. Unlike those of cell phones they need an extra amount of effort to push which eliminates accidental engagement. The screen, although small at 2.2 inches is very bright and adjustable to conditions. The step up of internal memory is a huge plus enabling the uploading of 1:250 topo maps. I purchased this with confidence that it will play an important role in my adventure to Australia this winter. I will gladly provide an update upon my return.

  • Nice Value!

Not being experienced with GPS units, I found the Garmin Etrex 20x very easy to learn and use! The smaller size fits neatly in my pocket or backpack. The screen, while a little small, is very clear. Finds and locks onto satellites quickly. Easy to set way points and create routes. This device, with the added TOPO US 24k maps, is great for my hiking, hunting and fishing needs!

  • Great Buy

Garmin Etrex 20x is a steal for the price offered. Its east to use, has a long battery life, and you can load free maps onto it via its basecamp PC app, after downloading from internet. My only complaint is that when being used, the device is very slow to load map detail, like an old phone. Its something i can live with though, and happy with purchase!

  • A Great Handheld GPS

It has most of the features of the more expensive units. It is fast, it can handle all sorts of maps. and it is stingy with battery power. It is a truly compact unit, but a little on the heavy side, not for a shirt pocket, but more for a pant's pocket; better yet, get a belt clip. I'm delighted with this unit.

  • Amazing little piece of technology...works great!

I work for Government Soil Conservation District and we use a Garmin eTrex 20x to locate points on as-built projects. The area measure feature works great for the total acreage of the project, and the waypoints feature is great for marking pipes and equipment in our ArcGis maps. I liked the eTrex so much that I purchased one for my personal use on my farm.

  • Works but had old users data

It took me awhile but I figured out how to get rid of all the data the previous user had. Would have saved me a few hours if the previous owner took 10 minutes to clear their data.

  • Love the GPS

The eTrex 20x is a rugged GPS that has worked flawlessly for me going on three years now. It is very reliable, as long as you have some spare batteries with you. The unit takes two AA batteries, which last for hours, but it will sneak up on you if your not prepared. The screen is small, but very crisp and easy to read, even in bright sunlight. It is easy to zoom in and out, so the small screen is not really a issue. The eTrex 20x does not have a true compass, but it does have a directional indicator. The directional indicator works like a compass but you have to be moving for it to update. The GPS boots up in about 30 seconds and acquires the satellite signals very quickly. The basemap that comes with it is not very impressive, expect to pay another $100 for the 24k map, which is awesome. I have also downloaded Birdseye imagery from Garmin, which looks just like a USGS paper map. The Birdseye imagery is cheaper than the 24k map, but you have to download small sections at a time, so it is labor intensive. I take my Garmin with me whenever I go hiking, canoeing, or boating and record my tracks. It is a invaluable tool for navigating in the wilderness and insures that you will be able to find your way back when you want to leave. When I get home from the wilderness I plug the GPS into my computer and I can see my tracks in the Garmin Basecamp software. Here I can see elevation changes, how fast I traveled and more. I can also rename any waypoints I marked and change the icons for them as well as add notes about them. I have even made some custom icons myself with graphics software on my computer. You can update the info in the GPS and back up any data you want on your computer's hard drive. All in all it is a fun tool to play with as well as a necessary one for safety if you like to get off the beaten trail.

  • Life saver, or peace of mind.

This little fella is versitile and quite useful. The base map won't win any awards for detail, but good luck losing yourself. Loading maps on this is easy and I think the battery life is great.

  • Good device but loading maps is a pain

Good device but loading maps is a chore. Must download multiple applications, hunt for maps, get them to work with basecamp, etc. Still trying to figure it out which is taking some of the fun out of it. Good tech should just work IMO with minimal effort.
