Filmed during the Grateful Dead's 1974 tour, Leon Gast's iconic documentary features Gary Gutierrez's hallucinatory animation interspersed with concert footage of the band performing classics such as "Truckin'," "Stella Blue," "Casey Jones," and "Sugar Magnolia." Filmmaker Gast--who went on to lens the acclaimed HELL'S ANGELS FOREVER (1983) and the Oscar-winning WHEN WE WERE KINGS (1996)--also goes behind the scenes with the band and interviews many fans in an ambitious effort to capture the complete Dead experience.
