Burt Lancaster stars in this adaptation of John Cheever's dreamlike short story about one man's highly unusual attempt to find meaning in his life. On the morning after a booze-filled night, Ned Merrill wakes up in a haze, confronted by the sterility of his isolated, wealthy suburban existence. So he decides to traverse this upper-class world swimming pool by swimming pool: he goes to each neighbor's house, swims through the chlorinated waters of the requisite backyard pool, and chats with the owner. Among the people he sees are his longtime mistress, a sexy babysitter and a couple of politically-liberal (or so they believe) nudists. Burt Landcaster's most fogettable movie.
This, in my opinion, is the worst movie that Burt Lancaster EVER made. I will never view it again. The plot is pure nonsense, the main character turns out to be a stereotypical Male Pig. I am offended by his actions with the females he interacts with in this movie. No, I am not easily offended by movies. I am an older male with tolerance for a lot of views that I myself do not hold. The ending of the movie is unusual. It does not explain situation created by the prior scenes. It leaves it up to the viewer to figure it out. Some viewers will enjoy this technique. I do not. Lancaster’s Great in this!
It is an unusual movie. Engrossing and great acting by Lancaster. You really don’t know where the movie is heading until nearly the end which is its best aspect.The only draw back is that it is a period piece of the rich middle class of the 60’s and the settings and people seem a bit dated.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht
