RV Booster Transformer Works, But Needs Improvement
The RV booster transformer does the job it was designed to do. However, it needs improvement to be a good value. At a cost of nearly $400.00, the unit gets only a three year warranty.
Also, any transformer generates heat. Yet, this one has no ventilation openings in its case at all. I measured the case temperature with the unit operating for a while and found it went up to 100 degree F mounted inside the RV. The unit would get much hotter if it were located outside in the sun. The internal heat buildup has no way to escape and slowly cooks the transformer's windings and electronics. Eventually, something will fail from the heat. It is a simple fact that electronics last longer and work better if they are kept cooler.
A partial solution to the heat problem would be to provide an optional vented top cap for the case if the unit is only to be used indoors.
