Sharpshooter and star of Colonel Buffalo Bill's Show, Frank Butler (Howard Keel) falls for the spirited Annie Oakley (Betty Hutton) until she provokes him into a clay pigeon shooting competition. Unfortunately, Annie is left to realize a man isn't always interested in a woman who can beat him at his own game. The film is based on Irving Berlin's play and contains the songs "Anything You Can Do," "Doin' What Comes Naturally," and "There's No Business Like Show Business." Winner of the 1951 Academy Award for Best Music and Scoring of a Musical Picture. It should be noted that Judy Garland was originally cast to star in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, but fell ill and was replaced by Betty Hutton.

Betty as ANNIE - lavish but over the top.
Whether you enjoy this or not depends largely on your reaction to Betty Hutton in the title role. By the end, I was tired of her mugging. She sings well enough, but her acting is so corny and repetitious. At the time this film was made, there are little respect of native Americans, and some will find that objectionable, but that was the prevailing feeling of the time. The rest of the cast is fine, but things in the plot happen too quickly to be believable. The bonus features, like two musical numbers recorded by the woefully miscast Judy Garland, are really worthwhile.

Fun musical with Debbie Reynolds at her best
Old VHS tapes vary in quality. This one was in great condition and worked well in a vintage VHS player.

Amazing
It's amazing that this musicall was filmed 67 years ago and the Technicolor, audio. and staging is so good. Hutton is stoarburlst of energy.

On of the best musicals ever
I love this musical. You Can't Get A Man With A Gun. Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better. There's No Business Like Show Business. You won't be able to stop singing along.

NEVER TRUST A WOMAN WITH A GUN
GREAT DVD.WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL OUR SCHOOL PERFORMED THIS SHOW.LOTS OF LAUGHS AND HUMOR WOULD RECOMMEND.
