This low-budget masterpiece was the breakthrough film for director Cameron, who weds special effects, thrills, and understated romance to create one of the finest action films of the 1980s, which spawned many imitations but few equals. Science fiction author Harlan Ellison sued over the film's similarities to his own works, especially the OUTER LIMITS episode "Demon with a Glass Hand," and won acknowledgement in the film's credits. Terminator "Original Treatment"
This version of the movie is the BEST in my opinion. Since they've gone in and Re-mastered the movie in later versions/special editions, the sound effects are different from the original with no PUNCH, the original Hemdale disc sound effects are much more brutal sounding and have more impact on the scenes. Especially the police station battle, the sound effects are weak in the re-mastered versions and completely diff from this version which really takes away the intensity of the scenes, it's almost as if it's been toned down and censored in the later versions. Plus the original gritty print in the Hemdale version gives it almost a "B film/Grindhouse" look.
