This is a marvelous cross between country rock a little pop! Many songs here remind me of Harry Nilsson (think “Everybody’s Talkin”. Of course the big hit in the US from this record is “Sweet City Woman” and indeed the US album was titled with that hit in mind but the the Canadian (and authentic) release is “Against The Grain”. The music is spacious like the open country and the harmonies are spot on. This record has cross gender and cross genre appeal! I’m speaking from the perspective of someone who loves the British (and Canadian...i.e. Rush) prog rock of the 70s and modern Steve Wilson gems but keeps an open mind to good music wherever he hears it. If you enjoyed the hypnotic Nilsson songs and of course “Sweet City Woman”, this record will be a treasure if you can find it. Or just get the CD if you are so inclined. I prefer the large format and vinyl sound. Either way you are in for a treat!
