Product Information

This adaptation of the classic sci-fi adventure tale by H.G. Wells, directed by Simon Wells (the great-grandson of the author), stars Guy Pearce as Alex Hartdegen, an absentminded New York professor preoccupied with what passes for technology at the turn of the 20th century. However, the one thing that can distract him from his calculations is his love for Emma (Sienna Guillory), his bride-to-be. When tragedy strikes and he loses Emma, Alex uses the time-travelling machine that he's built in secret to change the present by going into the past. When that fails to alter fate, he leaps forward in time, eventually landing 800,000 years in the future, an era where humanity has splintered into two races--the docile Eloi and the ferocious Morlocks. There Alex befriends two of the Eloi (Samantha and Omero Mumba) and attempts to help them resist almost certain death at the hands of the Morlocks.Like Pearce's character, this version of the novel is fascinated with technology and uses a daunting array of special effects. The fast-paced film was apparently not made without incident--Wells reportedly had a nervous breakdown during the shoot. Regardless of production difficulties, THE TIME MACHINE is an engaging spectacle that's anchored by Pearce and enhanced by the commanding appearance of Jeremy Irons.

    The time machine remake.

    The most remarkable thing about the film is that it was made by the great grandson of HG Wells. It was a re-imagination of the 1960 film staring Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux. It was fairly good, but the Hero of the film left something to be desired. Alan Young had a cameo in this remake, who played David Filby and James Filby in the 1960 version.

    Good adaptation of HG Wells original.

    I always love the movies about time travel. The things that motivate this man to time travel while ultimately leading him to more pressing problems!! I liked it.

    Goiod Si-Fi Movie

    It was a good flick but not as good as the original of the 1960s.Actually there are 3 of these movies as I have them all.

    The time machine dvd

    I love the original or first time machine movie starring Rod Taylor He was so young and handsome and wonderful actor. I then wanted to see the second or remake of this fine movie the time machine and I did enjoy it also and now have both movies in my collection

    Another re-make.

    I was a kid when I saw the original TIME MACHINE with Rod Taylor and always liked this movie enough to have watched it many times. I hesitated to catch this remake because most remakes are better left undone but I was happily surprised by this one. The story idea is basically the same, changes actually enhanced the story..while not diminishing the original...the characters are believable and likeable and the movie was completely enjoyable.
