Synopsis
The spirited and scholarly #1 New York Times bestseller combines boisterous history with grammar how-to's to show how important punctuation is in our world--period. In Eats, Shoots & Leaves, former editor Lynne Truss, gravely concerned about our current grammatical state, boldly defends proper punctuation. She proclaims, in her delightfully urbane, witty, and very English way, that it is time to look at our commas and semicolons and see them as the wonderful and necessary things they are. Using examples from literature, history, neighborhood signage, and her own imagination, Truss shows how meaning is shaped by commas and apostrophes, and the hilarious consequences of punctuation gone awry. Featuring a foreword by Frank McCourt, and interspersed with a lively history of punctuation from the invention of the question mark in the time of Charlemagne to George Orwell shunning the semicolon, Eats, Shoots & Leaves makes a powerful case for the preservation of proper punctuation., A bona fide publishing phenomenon, Lynne Trusss now classic #1 "New York Times" bestseller "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" makes its paperback debut after selling over 3 million copies worldwide in hardcover. We all know the basics of punctuation. Or do we? A look at most neighborhood signage tells a different story. Through sloppy usage and low standards on the Internet, in e-mail, and now text messages, we have made proper punctuation an endangered species. In "Eats, Shoots & Leaves," former editor Truss dares to say, in her delightfully urbane, witty, and very English way, that it is time to look at our commas and semicolons and see them as the wonderful and necessary things they are. This is a book for people who love punctuation and get upset when it is mishandled. From the invention of the question mark in the time of Charlemagne to George Orwell shunning the semicolon, this lively history makes a powerful case for the preservation of a system of printing conventions that is much too subtle to be mucked about with. Item was exactly as described. Shipping was reasonable. Item was loosely packed and not securely in shipping box. Could have been packed a smidge better imho. Overall satisfied. Would purchase from again without hesitation. Condition of item purchased was brand new factory sealed never opened 8oz bottle of Polo Green. Exactly what I received.

Golden Jeans Legend is a sweet, citrus, floral, fragrance that smells nice, unfortunately the postal system lost the order. It was ordered on 2/19 and not delivered until 3/3. Package was mutilated, container perfume was in was cracked and broken, perfume leaked partially out, lost about 1/4 of perfume, sprayer messed up. Will keep perfume cuz know you don't have any more. Unhappy with shipment. I know it's not your fault, stupid post office.!! Sue

Sue, I’m so sorry this happened! 😞 We pack items carefully, but it’s frustrating when the postal system mishandles a package. Even though you’re keeping it, I’d still love to make this right for you. Please reach out, and I’ll do my best to help. Your satisfaction means a lot, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Thanks for giving the fragrance a chance despite the shipping issues! 🙏😊

  • I find it hilarious

If you are a serious reader, you'll like this. I don't mean serious like deep content. Commas and periods make the difference in meaning. This gives lots of examples. I find them all fascinating and most of them funny.
