Based on "The Astronauts" by the great Stanislaw Lem (SOLARIS), this SF curio also boasts a multinational cast, as well as beautiful photography and production design. First Spaceship on Venus (Image Entertainment DVD)
Very good color East German/Polish (dubbed into English) early 60's sci-fi epic. An international crew of astronauts haul off to Venus after finding an artifact indicating there's life there. What they find is no life and an irradiated landscape after some kind of nuclear catastrophe. Now the nuclear hardware has kicked into life and is threatening to off Earth. Very interesting effects and the Venusian landscape looks properly eerie. The Image Entertainment DVD is very good but the picture is small because it is surrounded on all sides by black bands. In other words it is letterboxed to heck. This film needs re-mastering so the picture is larger. Other than that this DVD is highly recommended.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht
