A most comprehensive guide
This book is already well-reviewed and there is not much more I can add other than to recommend it highly. If you are at all interested in Napoleon's final campaign then this is a book you simply must read. It not only relates the before-and-after of the famous Waterloo clash in scintillating detail but seems to cover every conceivable aspect of Napoleonic warfare. Weapons, uniforms, tactics, logistics, command and control. You name it. For those who have not seen the Waterloo Battlefield there is even a comprehensive tour of the site today, with excellent maps, illustrations and photographs throughout. There are full Tables of Organization and Orders of Battle and the narrative is peppered with small stand-alone texts that reveal many fascinating gems of research, often about minor players in the drama - Napoleon's manservants, for example. Despite the minutiae it remains engrossing - to this reader anyway. I have dozens of books on Waterloo but this one is far and away the best.
