    In a word...'AAARGH!'

    A classic sea epic since 1950, to be sure. Robert Newton's performance as Long John Silver remains "sheer pirate poetry" to this day, with strong support and heart from Bobby Driscoll's portrayal of the impressionable Jim Hawkins. (Note to 'Doctor Who' fans... I noticed Patrick Troughton is listed in the end credits, as the pirate named 'Roach.' I scanned back through the film to find him. He appears most notably in the stockade attack scene, where he breaks in, aims his pistol---scowling in extreme closeup---squarely at Captain Smollett, but is batted aside by Jim. Dr. Livesay then makes short work of him in a cutlass duel.) As for the DVD copy: good playback, no glitches, good condition, neat clamshell case. Good investment.

    Great movie, great price!

    I loved this movie! The DVD disc is in great shape and the quality of the picture on my screen was sharp. I am happy to add this early Disney classic to my DVD film library. It is a noteworthy adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s legendary tale of pirates and buried treasure.

    A true classic

    Robert Newton was a true Pirate at heart. His role has never been matched as Long John Silver. A pure delight to view such great actors putting their all into this Disney Classic.

    Ahrrr! Return Once More....

    Ahoy! Matey! Back in the day! I finally have my own copy! Loved this when I was in short pants and would whip about with a handy stick. Good costumes, beautiful scenery, and excellent characterizations. Will be most happy to snuggle and share with my grandkids before they are old enough to do Johnny Dep and graphic gore.

    Treasure Island....a real treasure

    There have been several versions of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island produced, but none have met the standards created in this, the first full length all-action movie produced by Disney. No one has ever matched the characterizing performance of Robert Newton as Long John Silver, or the childish heroism of Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins. I first saw this film as a youngster in c1950, and it still has the wondrous attraction today as it did then.....of course there isn't the blood flows when someone is injured or killed as there is in modern films, but that ain't all bad. All in all, it's a film to sit down and enjoy with the whole family. Who knows? One may become interested in reading other of Stevenson's works.
