Directed HD Radio Converter
The unit has a box that has all the connections for power, antenna and control that you can hide in your dash or anywhere that works for you. It is easy to put together, all of the ports are marked very well and the build quality is good. You get all the pieces you need and it includes a remote. You can either wire this into your stock radio directly with RCA cables if your stock radio has the ports or you can just choose a frequency that the converter can tune to, there are many to choose from. Check your antenna connections before you start to make sure that you have all the same fittings. My GM truck needed a pair of lead adapters so that all the antenna leads could connected. There is more then enough wire to get the positive and negative connections done and the wire for the control ... Setup was easy as long as you read the instructions, you have to forgive some of the grammar issues. The sound on regular AM and FM is good and being able to get the HD stations is great. The display gives good information and I have no problem understanding it. Make sure when you place the control box that you can see it while your driving, I had to move mine once because the shift lever blocked it. I could go on, but I don't think I need to. The value of being able to get HD without having to get a new audio system is great. Do allow about 2 hours for install, it's not complicated, just some thinking on how to hide it and you do have a few connections to make.

HD Receiver
I bought this HD receiver for home use, although it was made as a car add-on. I have it wired to a 12v DC power supply and a pair of home speakers and it works wonderfully. It has no internal volume control but my speakers have built-in controls I use for that purpose. Only two local stations have HD broadcasting abilities. One is a non-commercial station that broadcasts news on HD-1 and classical on HD-2 (the music sounds spectacular). The other is a commercial station with a classic hits format on HD-1 and 60s-70s oldies on HD-2, which is a rebroadcast of an AM station giving us stereo on the HD signal. I wish more stations would do HD. This is a very good product, but I'm afraid that it will go the way of my AM-Stereo receiver...buried in the back of my closet.I bought this HD receiver for home use, although it was made as a car add-on. Excellent product. Because it's universal / uses it's own lcd display / controls, you can attach it to pretty much any head unit. The only drawback is having to use the display to change channels. But if you wan to keep your existing head unit, don't have HD-R, this is a great way to go. Very much worth the effort imho. Take the time to drill some holes in the top / sides / bottom. It's said they get very hot otherwise. I did and have no issues at all with heat. A bit warm, but that's it. Also, if you're going to use the RCA jacks, they need to be grounded. There are 2 ways to do it: 1) wrap some wire around them and ground the wire. 2) solder a piece of 24ga wire from the RCA jack common ground pin to the ground pin coming in from the power plug. HD radio on my OE radio 2005 Ford
Great way to convert desirable OE radio to HD. These were promotional units given to radio stations in 2006. "Not for resale." Ha! Good quality if installed correctly. This is my second unit because soda was spilled in my first unit and unit quit working. Working well. Don't pay a lot as new HD capable radio heads are about 115 from Crutchfield and others.
