Notes1973's Penguin marked another transition for the band. With Danny Kirwan now departed, the band added guitarist Bob Weston (Long John Baldry) & vocalist Dave Walker Idle Race, Savoy Brown). with Bob Welch contributing the gorgeous "Bright Fire" & "Night Watch" & Christine McVie's melodic pop tunes "Remember Me" & "Dissatisfied" along with their co-written "Did You Ever Love Me" this was their highest charting USA album to date at 49. The band produced the album with Martin Birch again engineering.

Outstanding and under-rated.
There are a number of great tracks highlighting the talents of guitarist Bob Welch and keyboard player Christine McVie including Bright Fire, Remember Me, Night Watch and Did You Ever Love Me that many Fleetwood Mac fans may be unaware of since this CD came out years before the band hit its stride and achieved commercial success. I think the Bob Welch years prior to the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks produced some of the band's greatest work, that unfortunately was under-recognized and Penguin is a shining example of this outstanding period of musical achievement.

Penguin has remained my favorite album since I first heard it in the 70's.
