Friend vs. Friend, Iron Man vs, Iron Man, Tony Stark vs. Himself.
The second half of Dennis O'Neil's classic run on Iron Man. Tony Stark has hit rock bottom, losing his company and giving into his alcoholism. Jim Rhodes dons the armor while Tony fights to get back on his feet but it's not all sunshine and roses for the new Iron Man. Rhodes is forced to fight some of the original Avenger's most dangerous villains like the Mandarin and the suit, calibrated specifically for use by Tony Stark, starts to negatively affect Rhodes' mind.
This book covers Tony's return to sobriety and the founding of a new company when they pack of and leave the traditional Marvel setting of New York City for Silicon Valley. It also features the inevitable clash between new and old Iron Men when Rhodes' suffering drives him into a dangerous rage. It's friend vs. friend in an battle of both Iron fists and emotions as Stark fights to stop his friend from going too far and hurting himself or others while Rhodes' fights to hold onto the role of super hero which has given new meaning to his life.
Along with the previous Epic Collection volume, "The Enemy Within," which is a must-have along with this book, it's part of one of the best Iron Man story arcs ever written. My only complaint and the reason I'm not giving it five stars is it cuts off before the final climax of the story in Iron Man #200 which has been collected in the "Iron Monger" trade.
