Based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing series from former publisher Interplay, Fallout 3 features a wide-open world viewed from a choice of first- or third-person perspectives.<br><br>Developed by the team behind the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and featuring the same graphics engine, Fallout 3 has you embarking on an assortment of quests while exploring, scavenging, and battling for your continued existence. Scrap-metal cities and rusted shantytowns are sources of human contact, but in between them lurk a number of hostile threats. The real-time combat is modeled after shooting games, albeit with the option to pause time for more precise shots using V.A.T.S. (the Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System). V.A.T.S. lets you pinpoint vulnerability areas with the help of percentage markers displayed on each body part. The higher the percentage, the likelier you are to hit the highlighted area. <br><br>Aiming at a particular body part can cripple it, affecting the enemy's ability to use an arm or leg in combat, while critical hits result in graphic displays of dismemberment. Defeating enemies earns you experience points to enhance your character's stats and acquire abilities called "perks," or specific talents in a chosen area of expertise. Fallout 3 also features some camaraderie in the form of a loyal canine named Dogmeat and a non-player character of your choosing. A licensed soundtrack with songs from the '40s and '50s helps set the mood, offering such hits as "Way Back Home," "Anything Goes," "Butcher Pete," and "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire."<br><br>The "Game of the Year Edition" includes the full original game, and for the first time on PS3, all five of Fallout 3's expansion packs: Operation Anchorage, Broken Steel, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta.

    Awesome game, even now!

    Such a great game! A very immersive and expansive world. Though load times can be a bit slow at times, and there are known to be bugs/game freezes. I save often, disable auto save and rarely have any issues. I've been playing the non-GOTY edition for quite a while and just upgraded to the GOTY edition. The initial load up wasn't good. Excruciatingly slow load times and a freeze up right away. Reset my PS3 loaded again and it was as smooth as ever. I'm looking forward to the added content.

    Great game

    Fallout 3 GOTY is a great game. Unlike the original game the GOTY does have the DLC unlocked once you leave the bunker. Experienced gamers will love this but new gamers may get a little confused or overwhelmed early on. If you wander into the dlc just keep playing and it will come together. Sure, some of the later Fallout games are better but this one still holds up great today. It's one you'll want to replay many times.

    Awesome Open-World Game. Lots to explore.

    It's been 16 years and this game still holds up to the test of time with its amazing open world exploration. Yes the graphics are dated. And the PS3 takes some time to load. But this game is still amazing.
