Works great when working. Bad design means these fail often and need to be replaced frequently.
These AT&T U-Verse S30-S1B are one of the worst remotes ever made, in that they fail quickly. I've had AT&T U-Verse service for 8 months now, and in that time I had to replace my brand new S30-S1B remotes FOUR TIMES already, because the keys fail. And its mainly the keys that are used to control the DVR, such as the pause, play, stop, etc.
I understand why these remotes fail, because moisture or other contaminates keys under the silicone key layer and interrupts the contact between the pressed key and the circuit board. But the problem is, unlike other popular remotes, I have been unable to disassemble it and clean it. With other remotes, you can take them apart and clean the bottom of the silicone keys layer, and re-assemble and the remote will work perfectly, but with these S30-S1B remotes, I think that they are glued together, making it impossible to open up without breaking the outer shell.
In any event, for whatever reason or design flaw, they have a reputation of not lasting very long and its not uncommon to have to keep replacing them. Fortunately they are relatively inexpensive and are usually readily available on ebay.
