Good, Not As Bad As My Heart is on the Ground and The Girl Who Chased Away Sorrow
The author did quite a bit of research. He researched the time period and had his motivations behind having the daughter of plantation owners. However, he took artistic license with their slaves being taught to read and write, which was illegal during the time of the Civil War. And he Historical Villain Downgrades their contribution to the evils African Americans in slavery faced. On the plus side, he allows many of their slaves to escape from their plantation.
