    Excellent plots with well-developed characters

    This is a unique and different heroic fantasy novel/series. It is somewhat "dark" but does not feel evil. It is no like the show "Dexter" which was very dark and made my skin crawl such that I ceased watching it. The characters throughout are exceptionally well developed with individualized personalities. Their personalities gradually change as life and events change them. The villains are also well developed. There is no one clear objective like the Shannara series. It is more like the Dragon Prince (by Rawn) where there are plots, subplots and ever-changing alliances as needs of the characters dictate. I am actually rereading the series as I read it maybe 20 years ago - it is definitely that good.
