Downton Abbey Is British Television (and Masterpiece Theater) At It's Best!
While this writing is for the boxset seasons 1 - 5 these words are meant for the entire series as well as the last two other disks The Manners Of Downton Abbey and The Secrets Of Highclere Castle, which I have found to be perfect for viewing together. Aside from the excellent performances and brilliant writing that each and every episode from the series brought forth, these disks contain just the 'Special Features' that aired along with the program and were generally from ten to twenty minutes in length. The Features contained just about every subject of production that a show would have in it but it too held many longer cast interviews that most people will find quite charming and refreshing that their particular favorite actor and actress may have their personal traits that they thought ... While this writing is for the boxset seasons 1 - 5 these words are meant for the entire series as well as the last two other disks The Manners Of Downton Abbey and The Secrets Of Highclere Castle, which I have found to be perfect for viewing together. Aside from the excellent performances and brilliant writing that each and every episode from the series brought forth, these disks contain just the 'Special Features' that aired along with the program and were generally from ten to twenty minutes in length. The Features contained just about every subject of production that a show would have in it but it too held many longer cast interviews that most people will find quite charming and refreshing that their particular favorite actor and actress may have their personal traits that they thought they might, (if that made any sense). These last two disks I believe can be found in certain other earlier boxsets but if not, get them separately as they only add to the overall enjoyment by removing 'mysteries' perhaps not fully understood, but spoken about in ways that are very easy to pick up. So Downton Abbey, over 50 hours of great viewing enjoy the DVD's one and all!

Downton Abbey: Quite a story
If you love history, you'll love Downton Abbey. It's a story of just how Lord Grantham and their respective families lived day to day in 1900's England. The series includes insight into just how badly the elite is disconnected from the working class. As time passes, life for the Grantham's cannot possibly remain the same. You'll get some real insight as to how the rich lose the ability to hold on to their "inheritance and status" of all these years. You'll also get heavily involved with the intertwining of the working class, their personalities, their daily lives, and just how they look upon the "Elite and their Entitlements" It's a great series, you'll not be able to turn it off. We can't wait until next year to see just how the story closes.If you love history, you'll love Downton Abbey. Detailed and Compelling on Many Levels
With the single exception of casting Shirley McClaine as a counterpart to Maggie Smith's "Mama," one would be hard pressed to find many flaws in this splendid production. Every member of the crew, which supported this excellent cast, made the whole effort remarkably fine entertainment. The many acclamations, crowned by the British BAFTA award, and the judgments of people around the world, who have become "addicted" to this drama series, seal it as one of the all-time best Masterpiece Theater productions. Julian Fellowes drew his audience in through his understanding of the human range of emotions, and the subtleties of the passing range of years portrayed in this epoch, with wonderful attention to the inner and outward elements of each character. The audience truly benefited from the ... a great story of the English upper class
I loved it from the first episode to the last. A family and their home and the staff that take care of them. Very impressive story and the actors are superb. Starts in early 1900's and flows through to the 1930's. So many changes and ups and downs. Makes you sad and happy and then sad again. This boxed set covers seasons 1 through season 5. The last season which is season 6 is just as wonderful.I loved it from the first episode to the last. A family and their home and the staff that take care of them. I love this PBS series. I watched this addicting story when aired on TV, rented the seasons when available, purchased Seasons 1-5, and am taping Season 6 as it airs...yes, I am a HUGE fan! I really do not know what is my favorite...the interesting storyline, the captivating costumes, the historical side, or the British accents. Downton Abbey gets my vote for BEST EVER!
