A decent copy (NO SPOILERS)
I bought and watched this movie, because I was comparing copies of Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame". I've seen many bad ones, and this one stands out as the best. This one aimed to be closer to the book than the Disney version, although the ending goes completely opposite that, but... no spoilers here, so not going into details. This version does not have any obnoxious talking gargoyle's, but at the same time it feels quite bland at times, and while some may cringe upon hearing "Disney Magic", but without it, it does feel like something is missing to make it engaging. I could imagine someone who wanted something much closer to the book being interested in this, but ... as I've said... the ending goes completely against being a faithful adaptation. In general, there is no reason to pick this over the Disney version, but at the same time, I consider it a fair attempt at imitation. They tried to do some things differently, closer to the book, and at times it works. I don't think it's a movie that will disappoint you, especially if you have not watched the Disney version.
