GARMIN GPSMAP78S, Unclear Instructions on how to download MAPs that are needed, Not able to be USED!!!!
I have given this PRODUCT a mediocre rating as the Instructions are not clear as to how to actually download the maps that I was wanting this GPS for navigating out in the Atchafalaya Spillway, mainly to set Way Points to help me with running my Hoop Nets out there. Not being able to download the needed maps, I haven't use this ITEM as of yet. So I can not give you much information about it's performance or it's reliability. It was purchased as an open box ITEM, so I am still hoping that it will function correctly, if and when I can ever get the MAPS that I need downloaded onto it .As of now, this Unit is still in the BOX.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

An excellent buy, hands down
I’ve had Garmin handhelds for over 23 years now. They’re some of the best consumer GPS units out there. This item, although refurbished, came as if it was brand new. No performance issues that I can notice. It is a little slow to load the maps when powering on, but I have a LOT of maps, so that’s understandable. I love the compass and the barometer. I bought this 78S to replace an old 76CS that is still operational after 11 years (but the battery contacts are biting the dust—my fault: I had some batteries leak because I didn’t remove them for a long time). Like it a lot
have loaded several routes so far from google earth and several waypoints. Have installed the bluechart g2 maps and it is now SWEET ! plan to use it at night to find my way in and around marshes whithout getting lost. My favorite GPS for Geocaching
I own and love 3- 62S GPS and a 64S. On those models, however, the case rubber deteriorates and falls off. The 78S is exactly a 62S in a different case and marketed as a marine unit. This case is far better than the 62 series...its hard plastic with thick rubber side grippers and is more ergonomic in the hand.....I like it better than the 62S and like the 62S its dead on accurate.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

Good handheld unit.
Acquires satellite signals quickly. I use it on a boat and it does what I want it to do which is leave a trail behind so I can see where I've been in case we get lost or get caught in fog. Has a back track feature to retrace your steps or your route. I got one that was refurbished for 100 dollars.
