Powered Switchable 4 Port USB 3.0 hub
One of my hobbies is programming microcontrollers and I often have need for 3 or 4 low powered usb2.0 devices all connected to one computer. Some just for power, others for power and intermittant usb access. Now that usb3.0 extension leads are available, I can extend this a few meters and connect all of these devices.
The hub comes with a 5V supply so there is plently of power available for each device. Being USB3.0, the hub has a higher power rating can easily handle 3 or 4 USB2.0 devices. The higher data rate also means the usb2 devices can run at their maximum speed.
When not being used for projects, the hub can be used for usb 3.0 memory sticks. All of mine get hot when left in the socket so the switches are useful, you can leave the stick in, then turn on or off as required.
The usb 3.0 sockets were a little tight on an all metal usb stick but it went in with a careful push.
When connected for the 1st time, W7 recognised the device as 1 x usb3, 1 x usb2 hubs ( and maybe a usb1) but did not work when a usb device was connected.
Selecting each hub (3 & 2) in Device Manager then telling W7 to update and search for drivers results in driver install. Then everything works fine, there may even be a USB1.0 hub there too but I didn't try to install it.
If you're not sure which hub to select, just select each one and update until it loads, if a different hub is already installed it will be left as it is.
