  • A fine presentation of Powers' work - a must for those interested in sf art

A look into the endlessly fascinating neo-Surrealist world of science fiction artst Richard Powers, whose work defined a certain era in science fiction paperback books. There was Freas, there was Gaughan, there was Schoenherr -- and there was Powers. I love the work of all three, but Powers is particularly appealing. He's been a bit of an influence on my own illustrating, but he's far more nuanced a painter than I am. Once I pick up this book it doesn't get set down again for at least half an hour.

  • It'll do for now, but a 2nd edition needs for Horror & Sci-Fi book covers

Overlooked master of illustration, Richard Powers, meant so much to me in the '60's. Every new Ballentine horror book that came out had a Powers cover, it seemed. Unless it was decorated b Ed Emshwiller. The book is great, but I wish there was less of his abstract art and mor horror/Sci-Fi covers. Like Invisible Men;s cover or Deals With The Devil. Also, mention should be made of the artist that most influenced his work: Yves Tanguay.
