Synopsis
Investigating interesting problems about the world makes mathematics compelling and engaging, but many students experience math as simply a set of rules and procedures to memorize and repeat on tests. Writing, however, frees students of the idea that mathematics is a collection of right answers owned by teachers. In Writing to Learn Mathematics , Joan Countryman demonstrates how you can dramatically improve students' reasoning capabilities using: journals learning logs letters autobiographies investigations formal papers. The text provides descriptions of writing activities that classroom teachers can use to enhance the learning of math and includes examples of student writing, from short journal entries to excerpts from longer research papers. Most helpful are the topics suggested to explore at different levels of the primary and secondary mathematics curriculum, including descriptions of student responses to these presentations. Readers of Writing to Learn Mathematics will discover how writing can help students develop concepts and thinking skills as well as free them to recognize what they know--and what they want to explore., As Joan Countryman demonstrates in this book, the use of journals, learning logs, letters, autobiographies, investigations, and formal papers can dramatically improve the reasoning abilities of students at all grade levels.

- e***- (122)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufUnfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.
- v***v (2105)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufAlthough this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate. How to chalk talk, by Harlan Tarbell (Nr. 197064259889)
