SynopsisIn Paula Deen's The Deen Family Cookbook, Paula and the Deens, Hiers, Groovers, and Orts share their recipes and memories. "Many of the bonds my family has were forged over the dinner table and through the sharing of recipes. Cooking is the way we express our love for one another....I feel so lucky and blessed by the strong support and wonderful memories--and the incredible recipes--that my family has brought me. They are the heart and soul of this book." --from the Introduction Nothing is more important to Paula Deen than her family, and nothing makes that big family happier than sitting down to a meal together. Paula's beloved Aunt Peggy makes an Old-Fashioned Meat Loaf that's as good in sandwiches the next day as it is for dinner. Baby brother Bubba Hiers brings his Beer and Onion Biscuits to the table, and his daughter, Corrie, makes a simple but luscious Lemony, Buttery Baked Fish that's perfect for a weeknight dinner. (Her Carrot-Pecan Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting are pretty tasty, too ) Son Jamie makes Huevos Rancheros, perfect for brunch, or try Bobby's Whole Wheat and Honey Pancakes. Husband Michael Groover knows his way around a grill: try his Company's Coming Grilled Steak and Veggie Supper for easy entertaining, and finish the evening with his Irish Coffee. Of course, there was no way The Lady herself was going to let her relatives have all the fun: Paula is, after all, Paula . She shares her recipe for the Ham and Chutney Biscuit Fingers she puts on the table at every family party as well as the Eggplant and Sausage Lasagna that went a long way toward getting the boys to eat their vegetables. And while there's plenty of butter, bacon, and mayonnaise in these pages, you'll find some of the lighter recipes that Paula enjoys, too: Seared Scallops with Pineapple-Cucumber Salsa is her first choice for a healthful but romantic supper with Michael, and Oven-Fried Chicken Breasts with Honey-Yogurt Drizzle lets Paula indulge in her favorite foods without guilt and with room for dessert. With more than 140 recipes and dozens of beautiful color photographs, there's something here for everyone. So invite over all those aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, and treat them to some home cooking, Deen family style., In Paula Deen's The Deen Family Cookbook, Paula and the Deens, Hiers, Groovers, and Orts share their recipes and memories. • This book will make it easy to fool people into thinking you can cook😇

I haven't found a recipe I didn't love. I don't like meat loaf most of the time I can eat it the next day on a sandwich with mayo an breadbutter pickles. Until I ate hers just the two of us can eat almost the whole thing with all the fixns. We have to make ourselves stop so there is some for sandwiches for lunch. An hell let all that stuff about her go who hasn't said the SAME EXACT thing in a moment of anger like sitting in traffic for hours or something an that goes both ways. (Races)

  • Great Cookbook

Could not be more pleased with this purchase. This lady has had a hard life and some really hard knocks. I love her recipes and her personality. She needs to be set on a pedestal; not looked down on for one mistake many years ago. I love owning one of her books.

  • The best of her early cook books.

REVIEW – THE DEEN FAMILY COOKBOOK (2009). (269 pages) Paula Deen’s tenth cookbook is a much more attractive book than any of its predecessors. The early books had no photographs and were spiral bound. The later ones were solidly bound but the only color photographs of the food were in two sets of 8 pages each clumped together. For most of the recipes you had no idea what the finished product would look like. With The Deen Family Cookbook, the layout and design are quite beautiful with lots of photos of the food as well as lovely ones of her family, cooking and/or just enjoying the food they contributed. There are nine sections: 1. Nibbles, Snacks, Sandwiches (18 recipes); 2. Appetizers, Soups, Salads (15 recipes); 3. Main Dishes (21 recipes); 4. Casseroles, Pastas (12 recipes); 5. Sides, Veggies (14 recipes); 6. Healthy Food (12 recipes); 7. Breakfast, Brunch (18 recipes); 8. Desserts, Sweets (27 recipes); 9. Drinks (10 recipes). My favorite section is the Casseroles and Pastas and I wish someday she would devote an entire book to just those subjects. Recipes include: Blue Cheese Dip, Crab Puffs, Avocado Salad, Salmon Corn Cakes, Shrimp Scampi, Four Cheese Baked Spaghetti, Asparagus Seafood Risotto, Mexican Chicken Casserole, Curried Zucchini Apple Soup, Pineapple Cucumber Salsa, Wheat & Honey Pancakes, and Peach Sangria. I love this cook book both for its easy and delicious recipes, but also for its attractive design. Of the ten first cook books, I consider this one to be her best.

Paula Deen is one of our favorite chefs. On Paula's food network tv show her down home southern cooking recipes are the ultimate in comfort foods. I own several of Paula Deen's Cookbooks and one of my favorites is The Lady and Son's Savannah Country Cookbook. I just love her home cooking recipes and watching her on Food Network.
