  • Great history by the one who lived it, made it.

written similar to a diary by an obviously educated man...the first chapters tell of his military encounters with men whom history has made famous (Fremont, Ord, Stockton, Kearney, etc) and offers a scenic view of California in the pre-Mexican war era, trips to Monterey, the mission at San Luis Obispo...places I have been. I'm looking forward to the approaching Civil War days, and Indian suppressions...book in beautiful shape, no marks...looks 'never read before'...the type is a little small font, but very clear.
