Synopsis
A fully revised edition of the popular guide to Hollywood finances, updated to reflect even newer films and trends In a Freakonomics -meets-Hollywood saga, veteran investigative reporter Edward Jay Epstein goes undercover to explore Hollywood's "invisible money machine," probing the dazzlingly complicated finances behind the hits and flops, while he answers a surprisingly difficult question: How do the studiosmake their money? We also learn: + How and why the studios harvest silver from old film prints ... + Why stars do--or don't do--their own stunts ... + The future of Netflix: Why the "next big thing" now seems in such deep trouble... + What it costs to insure Nicole Kidman's right knee... + How Hollywood manipulates Wall Street: including the story of the acquisition of MGM... wherein a consortium of banks and hedge funds lost some $5 billion... while Hollywood made millions. + Why Arnold Schwarzenegger is considered a contract genius... + The fate of serious fare: How HBO, AMC, and Showtime have found ways to make money offer adult drama, while the Hollywood studios prefer to cater to teen audiences. + Why Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is considered a "masterpiece" of financing ..., Epstein penetrates the dazzlingly complicated economics of Hollywood to uncover what he calls the studios' 'invisible money machine' - the bizarre financial schemes behind the hits and flops. These include harvesting the silver from old film prints, complicated foreign rights auctions, the manipulation of outside investors and filming in obscure locations to get subsidies and avoid taxes. Along the way, Epstein enlightens the reader about the star system and what makes Hollywood tick.

- e***- (122)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufUnfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.

- 2***4 (2351)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufI buy books from this seller all the time. The books are extremely affordable. Every once in a while there's an issue but more often than not, the outcome is positive. Packaging is just a thin sleeve with no bubble protection. This leaves the books open to damage in shipping. However, the seller ships for free. Book was actually in better condition than described - a nice surprise & greatly appreciated!! 👍 Thank you very much, seller!! I'll be back with another order!! 😀
