Suitable for intermittent work
I bought this to augment a custom SMD rework station that is rather troublesome . After using this device for lightweight SMD rework , I am impressed with the precise temperature control of the airgun and the fast heat up of the soldering iron and the ease of tinning the tips . Most Chinese models are difficult to tin the tips and I am somewhat concerned about replacement tips for this model as I am not finding them readily available on the Internet. The red and black probe leads were very difficult to push into the female banana plugs and really don't fit correctly ; this is the only true flaw I have found in this product . I am also aware of the fact that this product may be at end of life as I have yet to find another model by the same brand and same model number available. This is ... Handy, many uses other than stepper
Using this as a step to reach into kitchen cabinets. Works great for that also. Only problem is extra legs stored underneath to adjust the height will fall out if you lift stepper up off of floor. Had to tape them in. If you do not move stepper or change height often this will not matter.

853D Soldering Station
Great value. Iron heats rapidly, lots faster than my Weller. I really love the adjustable temperature feature. The adjustable hot air wand works very fast when reworking circuit boards. The adjustable 15vdc feature is a time saver when testing circuits. Most of my work is on Model Railroad circuits. After using this for a while I wouldn't be without it. Quality unit.

UP IN SMOKE
Soldering Iron and Hot Air Gun wokd well. The first time I used the Power Supply (7 volt @ 0.5amps) it stared smoking even after unplugged it smoked so bad I was afraid it caught FIRE so I opened the case. Transformer looks like it poured out its guts, the rectifier & voltage regulator appear bad. I'm not a tech but this has been my hobby for over 40 years so I have a pretty good Idea of what I'm doing. Anything that doesn't work is not a good value.Soldering Iron and Hot Air Gun wokd well. Problems after 3 hours. Iron got hot very quickly but now doesn't work. Power supply is only outputing 4.7 volts even though the display says 15.5 volts. The connector for the soldering iron is the most quality part of the whole thing. The tips for the SMD reflow device randomly fall off, this is bad if your trying to work on something and you can't have the work piece bumped or shaken or moved.
