Product Information

Namco's console flight sim series continues in Ace Combat 5. Set in the near future of an alternate reality, the game has players taking to the skies in one of 50 realistic, modern aircraft, to defend their fictional home country of Oesa. Teamwork is crucial in this edition of the game; players take full command of their own squadrons, and will be challenged to make on-the-spot tactical decisions that may determine the failure or success of a mission. The series' staple dogfighting is also prevalent, of course, so virtual pilots will have many opportunities to demonstrate their flying skills in the heat of battle. The game's main campaign tells its story over 30 individual missions, highlighted with cut scenes. As usual, Oesa is at odds with its longtime rival nation Yuktobania, but the appearance of an unidentified aircraft, capable of decimating an entire Tactical Fight squadron, may shake things up. The Ace Combat series began in arcades, and originally came to consoles as the PlayStation game Air Combat. The series moved to the 128-bit generation with Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, followed by this fifth release.

    One of the best Ace combats in my opinion

    The only other Ace Combat game I've ever played was the first one for the PlayStation. It was impressed with the look and feel of the game. Ace Combat 5 effectively helps me to relive the same enjoyment I had playing the first game. AC5 does a fantastic job of putting you in the pilot's seat of a fighter jet. The realism is astounding. Plane models look just like real jets, with good detail and believable movement. There are multiple viewpoints available both inside the cockpit and out that can be adjusted. The landscapes in certain missions are stunning to see from 2000 feet in the air. Finally, instant replays with adjustable angles appear after the completion of a mission (or in the event of the player's untimely death). They're reminiscent of the cool-looking replays in Gran Turismo ...

    Still early in the game but enjoying it ...

    Still early in the game but enjoying it to the level that AC4 got me hooked on. Game, case, and even the manual are all in pristine condition. No function issues on my old PS2.

    Buy this game

    My childhood favorite. Had to replace my old disk, found this one for super cheap. I wasn't very hopeful because of the age and the low price but they really came through. It even came with the original artwork. Can't get any better than that.

    Still awesome after all these years

    It's been well over a decade since Ace Combat 5 was released, and it's still an awesome game! The flying is fun, and the storyline is awesome. This game is one of the reasons I still own a PS2.
