SynopsisThis classic treatise on bullying by Dr. Seuss features a foil cover and color-enhanced illustrations As topical today as when it was first published in 1938, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins is the story of a young peasant (the same as in Bartholomew and the Oobleck --a Caldecott Honor Award-winner), and his unjust treatment at the hands of King Derwin. While The 500 Hats is one of Dr. Seuss's earliest and lesser known works, it is nevertheless totally Seussian and addresses subjects that we know the good doctor was passionate about throughout his life: the abuse of power (as in Yertle the Turtle and Horton Hears a Who ); rivalry (as in The Sneetches ); and of course, zany good humor (as in The Cat in the Hat and the 43 other books he wrote and illustrated), Dr. Seuss's classic treatise on bullying--now with fully color-enhanced illustrations! As topical today as when it was first published in 1938, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins is the story of a young boy (the same one featured in the Caldecott Honor Award-winner Bartholomew and the Oobleck ) and his unjust treatment at the hands of a king. Written in unrhymed prose, The 500 Hats is one of Dr. Seuss's earliest works, and while it may not be as well-known as his other stories, the book addresses subjects that we know the good doctor was passionate about throughout his life: the abuse of power (as in Yertle the Turtle and Horton Hears a Who ); rivalry (as in The Sneetches ); and of course, zany good humor (as in The Cat in the Hat and all the other books he wrote and illustrated)!

  • Nostalgia

I'm dyslexic. Growing up in the 1950's I didn't grasp the concept of reading. Third grade, got this book from the library... it doesn't rhyme, it's pretty silly, written in the 1939's but the letters stopped dancing on the page and made words for me .. finally! This replaced my list / stolen copy from my childhood. My little grands are loving the story and counting the hats .

  • Great story

I bought this for my husband to go with the three hats...two Fez and a beanie...I gave him for Christmas. I remember this book from my childhood. It is charming. Reading it as an adult, I didn't realize it is also about bullying and entitlement. The book itself is in excellent condition.

  • Completely satisfied

Dr. Seuss books can be hard to find. Some of the older books are especially hard to find for a price I can afford in a condition that is still handleable. This one came as a pleasant surprise. I was completely shocked at how well preserved it is.

  • Sweet memories

I remember this book from when I was younger and must have taken it out of the library so many times. I decided to look for it for my granddaughter and she loves it.
