The Only Key Switch to Fit the !970's Era Mercury Controls
If you have a Mercury outboard remote control from the '70s, you can not fit a key switch from a Quicksilver control into it. There is simply not enough room. This is the switch that fits, and even then you must solder the wires to the terminals regardless of the fact that they have screw posts on them. The screw posts are already coated with solder. The trick is to strip just enough insulation off the wire to hook the wire through the screw holes on the terminals. After stripping the insulation coat the bare wire with solder. The use of a mini torch makes this all go faster. Then just hook the wires through the holes on their respective terminals. put a little heat on the wire and terminal and you will get an instant corrosion proof and strong connection.
