SynopsisThe recently discovered mystical sayings of Jesus, with facing-page commentary that brings the text to life for you. "The Gospel of Thomas really is, I believe, the clearest guide we have to the vision of the world's supreme mystical revolutionary, the teacher known as Jesus. To those who learn to unpack its sometimes cryptic sayings, the Gospel of Thomas offers a naked and dazzlingly subversive representation of Jesus' defining and most radical discovery: that the living Kingdom of God burns in us and surrounds us at all moments." -- from the Foreword by Andrew Harvey This ancient text can become a companion for your own spiritual journey. In 1945, twelve ancient books were found inside a sealed jar at the base of an Egyptian cliff. One of those texts was the Gospel of Thomas, one of the most important religious archaeological discoveries of the twentieth century. While illuminating the origins of Christianity, it raises the question whether the New Testament's version of Jesus' teachings is entirely accurate and complete. Written at the same time as the canonical Gospels, the Gospel of Thomas portrays Jesus as a wisdom-loving sage. The aphoristic sayings emphasize the value of the present, teaching that the Kingdom of God is here and now, rather than a future promise or future threat. It presents a new way of looking at the challenging and intriguing figure of Jesus, and reminds us that the Divine can be found right here on earth. Now you can experience the Gospel of Thomas with understanding even if you have no previous knowledge of early Christian history or thought. This SkyLight Illuminations edition offers insightful yet unobtrusive commentary that explains references and philosophical terms, shares the inspiring interpretations of famous spiritual teachers, and gives you deeper understanding of Thomas's innovative message: that self-knowledge and contemplation of the nature of this world are the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven., The Gospel of Thomas shows Jesus as a wisdom-loving sage, sharing aphorisms about the value of the present and how to create the Kingdom of God on earth. • It will make you think

I got a copy a few years ago, I found it fascinating. I read it many times, and finally lent it to a friend. He was intrigued as well, in fact after he had it for a while, I told him it was in fact a gift, and bought myself this new copy for myself. Don't expect to find answers though. The words are presented as quotations, of words spoken by Christ to Thomas & the other apostles. But these are not a rehash of the other 4 gospels, these are more like snippets, and seem like puzzles that need to be decoded. Did I mention that they are in no particular chronological order? It will make you question, and think.

  • The True Sayings of Christ, Preserved for Today in the Sands of Egypt

The book, The Gospel of Thomas, is the new and true contrasted Bible for and of Christianity, saved from the pagan Romans and the Bible-falsifications of the early Roman Church! It is, however, only understood when spiritual knowledge and spiritual experiences were gained. This book is heavily studded with symbols that work on several layers of existence, as words of the ancient languages do. Not taught in churches! Even the translator/commentator would at times not find an answer for the meaning of some sayings, proving the missing spiritual training at home and in schools! Such knowledge comes with meditation (University of Sedona, Bachelor to PhD about $1200 with scholarships for all). Sources for spiritual secrets, in parts, are found in Buddhism and Hinduism, yet all religions have such or other parts in symbols. When seeing them all together, one finds the true teachings of Christ! Want to learn secrets that are in the Bible, hidden in worldly words? Info*Letter Voice of Lightning shows what our sacred 13 eFields are about! All the world once knew! With this new-ancient info, the Gospel of Thomas and certain Bible verses make sense! Turning the other cheek does not mean being the willing victim; the mountain may not mean the mountain; the serpent is not always evil; what Christ said on the cross (Eli, Eli), nobody understood until the Book of Consciousness was published in 2011! With the Gospel of Thomas and other sources, you can raise your spiritual IQ=SIQ! The Gospel of Thomas = greatest testimony of Christ!

  • Good book but difficult to follow

The book itself is nicely laid out and has an excellent commentary - one page of the writing of Thomas, the opposite page a commentary on the writing. Gripe here is that it is disjointed - reads more like excerpts rather than a continuing document. So hard to make a total picture, more like a jigsaw puzzle, trying to fit things together.

  • It’s too dangerous to depend on man’s words

I suggest you rely on your Bible. I studied for over 20 years and I’ve also read the Bible back to back several copies. Read your Bible rely on it.
