Pleasant Surprise
For the most part, live versions of studio albums fall a little short of top notch. The live versions are usually vehicles for the musicians that remain, and those that are hired guns to show their solo chops on re-recordings of the music. But let's face it, it is difficult at best to compete with multi-track recordings in which the artist, as well as the recording engineers can play with over-lays of each instrument until the track is of stellar sound quality multiplied by the number of tracks on the album. NOT SO on The Nightfly Live! This is one of the best live versions I've ever heard. Well worth the listen at least once, probably multiple times. You see I'm still trying to figure out which one is better the original Nightfly or the Live version. Probably the Live version!
