NotesHighly-anticipated 2018 album from the veteran singer/songwriter. The Tree of Forgiveness is Prine's first collection of new material since 2005's Grammy-winning Fair and Square. Prine teamed with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb to record in Nashville's historic Studio A, enlisting friends like Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Amanda Shires to sing along. The songs are new, although some had waited to be finished for decades, like a co-write with Phil Spectro called "God Only Knows." Another incomplete song, "I Have Met My Love Today," now celebrates the unexpected spark that leads to lifelong romance - with a dash of youthful innocence. The musical arrangements may be simpler than on past efforts, yet his unique ability to distill complex emotions into everyday language remains fully intact. Rather than going out on a limb, Prine cultivated the themes that have brought international acclaim since the 1970s. For example, he can take a topic like loneliness and make it funny or heartbreaking.

A fun record to listen to

As with must things "John Prine" the title was a little obtruse but, hey, that's why I like the man.
I heard an interview with John Prine on Public Radio and immediately went on line to find a copy of the CD. The CD I purchased from ebay was considerably cheaper than retail or at other online sites. The CD was delivered to me in only a few days. I've been a John Prine fan for decades and was delighted to learn of a new recording after a long time without any (I was unaware of his bouts with cancer). His illness has changed the sound of his his voice, but I very much like his new sound and was very pleased with his lyrics which have been one of the reasons I've always liked John. Classic John Prine, nothing but great music.
Incredible original music from an American musical icon. Witty, clever lyrics and the wonderful, sweet guitar and arrangements we have come to know and love ever since he burst onto the scene all those many years ago... 'if they knew what you were thinkin' they'a run you out of Lincoln'... and 'Grandpa, why you walk that way?'.... if you, like me, have always been in love with the man and his music and admired his talent and genius, don't wait, get this cd right now.... almost too god to be true.
