Good movie derived from a good song.
I can't say is if I remember much about this movie when I watched it when I was young because my mind couldn't grasp the concept of the movie but now as an adult I can comprehend it and appreciate a good movie made back years before my time. I'm glad I added it to my collection so I can peel back the veil of time and enjoy it anytime that I want.

An Excellent love story /Drama
The movie keeps you riveted to your TV from start to finish. The characters and believable and entertaining. But the ending is so 😔 sad. A movie I will watch over and over again. Thanks

Song turned into a film.
This film is based on a song by Bobbie Gentry recorded in the 1960s. While the song kept you guessing about the characters, their motivations, and actions. The film delivers the full storyline. Weather Bobbie Gentry was behind the film's plot or not, the details in film make sense as to what and why things happened.So I was glad to see the idea fleshed out. Details of the setting, and regional integrity are preserved in the film. I remember radio stations asked listeners what Billy Joe was throwing off the bridge, and got a lot of opinions, nothing was confirmed until the film was made. I thought it was an unborn fetus, but this was not what they threw off the bridge. To find out, buy the DVD of this story.

Great movie. Lost my first copy so I bought it again
This movie has great acting for its time and tells a little about history in 1953. Very remerable movie.

A VINTAGE MOVIE THAT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM OF TEENAGE SUICIDE IN OUR LGBTQ SOCIETY
In this very compelling movie - not a dull moment - ROBBY BENSON, the voice of THE BEAST in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Disney's Animated treasure, is full of energy, and his boyish charm is irresistible. His romance with the neighbor's daughter (GLYNNIS O'CONNOR) is wonderfully refreshing and energetic. They are explosive together. But neither Billy Joe nor his girlfriend knows that he is gay, and spends the night with a local man, and is so ashamed in his girlfriend's eyes. He tries desperately to regain their passion, but alas... CANNOT. He tells her what he has done with the local man - that he has slept with a man - and she tries to understand and comfort him. He goes off to be alone and think about everything. He disappears. Two days later, he is dragged from the river bottom - dead. Included is, of course, the haunting and moving song from the 70's songstress: BOBBIE GENTRY singing ODE TO BILLY JOE, which was popular on the radio in that era. Get the tissues out. This is a tear-jerker. The sad loss of such a bright and promising young man - lost. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS LGBTQ, DON'T PULL AWAY OR CONDEMN THEM. PLEASE BE A SUPPORTIVE FORCE IN THEIR LIFE. Brilliant
I remember seeing this in the movie theatre. I was young and didn't really understand the full story. Even then I was amazed at how Brilliant Robby Benson is as an actor. Was I watched this as an adult it broke my heart watching this same scene & knowing the story. Robby Benson is beyond talented.

Good movie
Seen this movie 4 times when it was at the theater. Robbie Benson was every teen Girls heart throb! Still enjoyed watching it 42 yrs later.
