Nice to be aware of your traveling surroundings...
I always try to carry a topo map of the areas where we plan to travel. It's nice to find the name of counties, rivers, creeks,etc. I usually use a highlighter to mark our paths. The first few years, I used a different color for each year and dated in the margins. That way I knew how long it had been since we traveled those roads. But after a few years, I ran out of colors. Then it was time for an updated map.

Texas Gazateer
I owned previous edition of the Gazateer for Texas. the most recent edition does not have the detail for the larger Texas cities that the older edition has. I use the Gazateer for overviews of the areas I like to travel too in Texas but to omit any detail of the cities cuts too much out. would not recommend. Navigation is fine for street level detail but the broad overview I used to get from the Gazateer is a loss. the maps of the rural areas are still great. Would not have purchased if I would have known the city detail was omitted

a ton of information on the state of Texas
this is just what I need to plan my trip to Texas it has a lot more information than a map does, topography, rivers, creeks, river crossings, camp grounds, airports even the little used airstrips. it also lists blm land, national and state forests, recreation areas, game preserves and historical sites.

On the Road Again
Great way to plan trips during these winter months, even if you don't go there is a lot to learn about with these maps.
