Worth the Extra Cost
This is a Sigma "Art" lens, as opposed to one in the company's lower-end, cheaper "Contemporary" series. The difference between the Art lenses and the regular lenses is obvious after only a few photographs. I am a professional artist and photographer, and I already own the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art lens, so this 20-70mm f/2.8 is the complement in what will eventually be the "holy trinity," which include the 70-200mm f/2.8 Art lens. Once you have these lenses, you won't want to go back to ordinary lenses. Images have that special "something" that spoils the discerning professional or advanced amateur. I have included two of my digital artworks that began with photographs using the Sigma 20-70mm Art lens. They're worth the extra cost because they are, after all, really an investment in your talent.

Better than 24-70mm G Master
The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG Art Lens is of very high building quality and gives very sharp image. Its sharpness and features are as good as if not better than the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master. My first Sigma lens and I love it

Love this lens!
I shoot sports photography, a lot of volleyball tourneys in sometimes not very well lit gyms. The sigma 2.8 helps alleviate that. Proving some very crisp pictures the zoom range allows for shooting in small gyms as well.
