This probably occurred during storage, after the original pictures were taken. This was packaged very well. The cause for the conditions is the artist's failure to prepare the canvas with gesso and to protect the finished work with a matte varnish to prevent smudging during normal handling. It now brightens what used to be a dark corner of a lonely room, and brings me joy every day. Thank you!
