Magnificent, thought provoking film
A beautiful, sensitive, thought provoking film which is a must see. Great performances by the entire cast bringing life and believability to the characters they play. I would underline the fine performance of Bill Skarsgärd as Simon after the war.
It is not a depressing film but rather a realistic one, intense at times but always true to the emotions of the characters. It is also a cry against anti semitism which still shows its ugly face today.
What is also outstanding is the music soundtrack. Like the oak tree, the music feels like it is a character in the story.
When I ordered the film, I did not know that it was based on a novel. I have ordered the novel to read. I usually read the novel before watching the film.
The Swedish film industry gives us another masterpiece much like the 2012 film “Don’t Ever Wipe Tears without Gloves.” Some of the great films have come out of Sweden, notably those by Ingmar Bergman.
A whirlwind of emotion making for an indisputable masterpiece. Be sure to watch it.
