Great style but quality is ???
I bought this stereo set because I wanted to add a radio to my center console boat without taking up a lot of console space. I like the idea of the "gauge" sized radio and this fit the ticket. Plus, since it included speakers and even an antenna, it was an even more attractive package.
On the positive side, installation was relatively easy (I say "relatively" because I had to drill the holes for both the radio and speakers) and sound quality, once operating, was acceptable. It also looks good and takes up a minimum of space.
On the negative side, the first time I went out on the water and the sun hit it, it developed moisture inside the glass. Mind you, it has NEVER been hit with water; not a hose, rain, anything. The console on my boat is covered 100% of the time when it's not in use. Another thing that is a bit disappointing is that it does not have an internal battery for radio preset storage; it must be wired directly to the battery. My boat, as with others, doesn't have any live circuits at the helm once the battery switch is turned off and I didn't want to have to run a wire back to the battery and have it "hot" at all times, so I'll just deal with this inconvenience of having to search for stations and preset them every time I go out. Lastly, I'm a bit confused about the purpose of the USB connection. The wiring diagram states, "FOR CHARGING ONLY: Cell Phone and iPod Media Playback Not Supported" but yet the Operation Quick Start Guide section "G - USB Operation" has directions for playing music via it. Does that mean that I can insert a thumb drive with music and it will play?? I guess one day I'll give it a try.
