These strategy guides are obviously intended for collectors and enthusiasts of the .hack series. It is by no means necessary to complete or even master the first game, but it's great to have for the sake of historic value. .hack//Infection was the first in the series released for PS2 and holds a special place in many players' hearts.
The guide goes in depth on certain mechanics and suggests a compelling course of action. The maps alone are worth it. Charts and breakdowns are compelling for those into such details, but for the most part its just a part of history of this game. The same goes for all others of its type in the series.
Though a lot more and in-depth information can be found online, something about these early strategy guides is endearing. They also used a lot more candid language; throwing in jokes and crude humor in places. There are also chunks of lore which may or may not have been missed in the game itself.
All in all, the guides is great. It makes for a good addition to anyone collecting .hack memorabilia and history.
This guide is in as close to mint condition as a 20+ year-old book that was probably used by kids or teenagers can possibly be. No noticeably bent corners, every page is present & accounted for, no pages stuck together — it’s exactly what I was looking for as a collector of the .hack franchise who still wants to use the guide.
