Forget That "Greatest Hits"-- Buy This
That flashier Greatest Hits that was released several years after Galore is somewhat of a waste by comparison. Granted, Galore doesn't present anything prior to 1987-- admittedly The Cure's foundational years when they were a major force in building the new wave and post-punk movements-- but there's two reasons that shouldn't be a problem. First, for the average casual fan on the States side of the Atlantic, it's the later period that will be most familiar. "Friday I'm In Love", "Lovesong" and "Pictures of "You" are all here, which put the band into the notice of the US mainstream. For those fans, Galore will be all they need. Secondly, if you're either a fan from the U.K, or an American listener who was more aware of "the scene" in the early 80s; or if you bought Galore and are just hungry for more, the highly-influential early singles are easily acquired by adding Staring at the Sea to your library, thereby giving you what is essentially a comprehensive 2-disk "best of" that is far richer and more satisfying than the cobbled-together Greatest Hits album. Yes, much more value for the dollar can be found here.
